“There is grace in receiving.”

Those are the words my friend Karen shared with me earlier this week. Karen survived a fire years ago, and she said to me that those five words, once spoken to her in the direct aftermath, allowed her to change her outlook, strengthen her faith, and accept what she needed. And so, let me begin by acknowledging that I have received—and continue to do so.

Over the last many days, I’ve received so many notes, texts, and messages checking in on me and my family. It’s been overwhelming, humbling, and deeply meaningful to me. I am so grateful to each of you who reached out to me. I wish I could share every note, every poem, and every voice message, as each of them has touched me in the deepest of places. Some have brought me to tears. Some have allowed me to simply sit in gratitude. Others have kind of taken my breath away, like this one from my friend Miroslav Volf:
