Sunday Paper PLUS Recommends—Week of June 30, 2024
At The Sunday Paper, we often discover books, podcasts, films, and other works that move the needle and spark inspiring change. This week, we are thrilled to hand the mic again to our Sunday Paper PLUS readers! Our thanks to Sharon, Karri, and Janine (& Maria!) for their recommendations. We hope what they suggest below opens your heart and mind.
What Sharon Is Reading
It's summertime, so we are pulling the best novels off our shelves and from the bookstores. Thankfully, Sharon tipped us off to The Women, a bestselling book about how women have sacrificed, put themselves in harm's way, and committed to their country. The layers are rich, as is the prose on the page. This stunning novel covers the topics of friendship, courage, loss, politics, betrayal, and ultimately hope. Thanks for the rec, Sharon!
What Janine Is Listening to
Dhru Purohit is one of the most compelling podcasters right now—and the masses underscore this statement. His eponymous show is a top health and wellness series in which he interviews experts in the fields of mindset, mindfulness, science, and health to offer listeners actionable tips for optimizing our brains and bodies. This series is the perfect blend of science, medicine, and life wisdom. We're so grateful for the listen, Janine!
What Karri Is Watching
Under the Bridge is based on acclaimed author Rebecca Godfrey’s book about the 1997 true story of fourteen-year old Reena Virk (Vritika Gupta) who went to join friends at a party and never returned home. Through the eyes of Godfrey (Riley Keough) and a local police officer (Lily Gladstone), the series takes us into the hidden world of the young girls accused of the murder — revealing startling truths about the unlikely killer.
& A Bonus Rec from Maria!
And lastly, we always get the best recommendations from Maria. This week, she put the podcast "Age & Attitude" on our radars, and we're hooked. This series covers conversations catered to those of us who are 50 and older, with special guests across various platforms. Host Malin Svensson—a celebrity fitness trainer to the 50-plus crowd— has the experience and knack for leaving you strong, empowered, and motivated for all that is now and ahead.
