At The Sunday Paper, we often discover books, podcasts, films, and other works that move the needle and spark inspiring change. This week, we are thrilled to hand the mic again to our Sunday Paper PLUS readers! Our thanks to Shelly, Wendy, and Carolyn for their recommendations. We hope what they suggest below opens your heart and mind.

What Carolyn Osuyos is Reading

When author, journalist, and thought leader, Malcolm Gladwell decided to update his groundbreaking 2000 bestseller The Tipping Point for a new generation, he decided he actually wanted to rewrite the whole thing. The result is The Revenge of the Tipping Point: Overstories, Superspreaders and the Rise of Social Engineering, where he explores the darker side of social epidemics such as the spread of misinformation and the ethical implications of social change.

What Wendy Hawkins is Listening To

Soulful singer and songwriter Teddy Swims dropped his new album I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 2) on January 24 and it’s got something for everyone. A catchy mix of R&B, pop, and country, this follow-up album to 2023’s I’ve Tried Everything But Therapy (Part 1), features Swims’ smooth and versatile voice at its best on 13 catchy songs produced by industry royalty. Stream on Spotify.

What Shelley Spencer is Watching

This reboot of the Andy-Griffith-led classic courtroom drama stars Kathy Bates as Madeline “Mattie” Kingston, a clever, folksy attorney with a tragic backstory. But, this updated Matlock doesn’t take its cues from the original. Instead, this modern law procedural plays with the theme of the invisibility of older women, aging out of life and the workforce. And Bates’ character uses her “harmlessness” and humor to her advantage to surprise foes and win cases. Streaming now on CBS.
