1. Parents Are Feeling Lonely. Here’s Why It Matters
Anyone who’s ever been a parent can tell you the job can be a tough one. However, moms and dads are facing new challenges today, according to a recent survey published by the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus. A staggering 66% of 1,005 parents surveyed felt the demands of parenthood sometimes or frequently left them feeling isolated and lonely, while nearly 40% felt as if they have no one to support them in their parenting role. 2. Doctors Start to Take Women’s Pain More Seriously
For years, women’s pain has been dismissed—and this is particularly true for women of color. Thankfully, recent stories about the regularity with which women experience pain during routine healthcare have brought attention to the issue. “I think we’re really living at a moment that’s an inflection point where there’s broad recognition and momentum to create gender equity in the healthcare system,” Neel Shah, chief medical officer of Maven, a virtual women's care company, told Axios. 3. What Are the Athletic Differences Between Men and Trans Women?
A new study found transgender female athletes showed greater handgrip strength (an indicator of overall muscle strength) but lower jumping ability, lung function, and relative cardiovascular fitness compared with women who were assigned female at birth. The data also compared trans women with men, and it contradicted a broad claim often made by proponents of rules that bar transgender women from competing in women’s sports.
