A Missouri eleven-year-old, Avery Young, recently dedicated over 30 hours to cleaning the 800 headstones at the Mokane Cemetery she has been visiting since she was a baby.

“I have family members [there] and whenever I visit them on Memorial Day I realize there aren’t headstones with flowers on them, or they’re dirty,” said Avery.

As Memorial Day approached, Avery asked the cemetery’s Board of Directors if she could clean and decorate the headstones as her yearly service project for her 4-H Club. She said the project was rewarding and that it was interesting to see the messages on the gravestones of those who came before her.
