“Love at Second Sight”: One Couple's Journey From Love, to Divorce, and Love Again
It’s been said many times over that timing is everything. For this couple, the timing was everything—and more—for their second go-around at being together.
Paul Mattingly and Laura Lee Estes have reunited four decades after first being married. They initially exchanged vows in September 1980 after meeting in college. But after agreeing that they were just too young, they parted ways.
“We just didn't really know how to be married, I don't think, at that time," Mattingly, who is 64, tells PEOPLE.
Eventually, fate had bigger plans for them. After living their separate lives for 40 years, the two reunited when Laura Lee decided to ask out Paul on a date. The rest is truly history from there.
The couple, now happily married a second time around, says they’re making up for past mistakes and lost time.
"We both do a better job communicating," Laura Lee says. "We laugh a lot."
