Here Are Four Powerful Reminders of the Expansive Love We Can Find In Our World
This week, as news from Ukraine continues to fill our screens and the complexities of life roll on, we were reminded of the power of love and its ability to light our world, even in the darkest and most difficult moments. These four examples show how expansive, selfless, and powerful love can be:
Venus and Serena Williams
The tennis stars and sisters, whose lives were recently chronicled in the Oscar-nominated film King Richard (which the pair executive-produced), were featured in Harper’s Bazaar discussing their storied careers and their experiences as both role models for Black families and unique to themselves. Their love and support of each other is evident in their conversation with the magazine, and we celebrate this beautiful example of Sunday Paper Love. “1 Room for Mother + Child”
As Ukrainians flee their homeland in search of safety, to say a multitude of worries exists couldn’t begin to capture the refugee experience. Despite the tragedy, images abound that remind us of the goodness in our global community. As Ukrainians arrived in the Berlin train station this week, Germans awaited with homemade signs offering a place to stay—no strings attached. When asked for what drove their kindness, one couple said, “It could have been us.” To see these breathtaking images and read more about this pure example of Sunday Paper Love, read this piece on BBC.com.
Olesya Hudyma
Art has the unique ability to move our souls and spirits, and artist Olesya Hudyma’s pieces have moved ours to love. The Ukrainian painter, whose piece we featured as this week’s cover image for The Sunday Paper, pours herself into her beautiful work and has reminded us that beauty and pain can exist together. Patrol Trooper Toni Schuck
This past week, Florida Highway Patrol praised Patrol Trooper Toni Schuck whose act of selfless love protected thousands and likely saved countless lives. As a charity 10K run took place, a rogue driver, who was under the influence, barreled toward the nearly 7,000 participants and Schuck drove her vehicle into the driver’s path, ending the car’s advancement into the crowd. Schuck, whose bravery was praised by many, is recovering from injuries at home surrounded by family. To read more about Schuck’s act of heroism and see dashcam footage from the incident, read this piece on People.com.
