Dr. Ruth Westheimer, the beloved German-American’ sexpert’ and bestselling author of books like Sex for Dummies and The Art of Arousal, recently celebrated her 95th birthday. You may know Dr. Ruth from her 80s radio talk show Sexually Speaking or her subsequent appearances on talk shows, game shows, and sitcoms that solidified her as a pop culture icon and leading voice in the field.

She recently chatted about this milestone birthday, reflected on her life and career, and offered a peek at her next project. When asked how it feels to be turning 95, Dr. Ruth said, “My body is wonderful and I’m lucky that I’m healthy. My daughter Miriam lives nearby. My son Joel is in Ottawa, but he comes very often, and I have four grandchildren. And the word that I have to use is that I’m grateful.”

Westheimer revealed that she’s teaming up with the Department of Aging in New York State on Grand Parenthood for her next project. She said the concept is something like “adopting a grandmother.” The goal is to ensure that every child has a significant adult in their life.
