Throughout life, I’ve always been drawn to people leading lives of meaning, joy, and purpose. It fascinates me to try and understand what they’ve done to put their lives on the right track. Where do they find their meaning and purpose? How do they find their joy?

A few years ago I compiled a list of these Sunday morning essays into a book called I’ve Been Thinking: Prayers, Reflections, and Meditations for a Meaningful Life. At the time, I thought one’s ultimate goal should be to live a more meaningful life. And while I still believe that to be true, I have come to also realize that a life without joy— a.k.a. fun, laughter, friendships, and love—has no meaning at all.
