Conan O'Brien is sitting in a cafe in Bergen, Norway, knitting. Around him are his new friends with their yarn in hand, cracking up over his jokes. One woman even holds O'Brien's glass of wine to his lips so he can take a sip while he stitches. "Look! I knitted everybody!" he says as he holds up his new piece.

This scene sounds odd, for sure, but it's endearingly very Conan. It's a small sampling of the many awkward and funny moments the comedian finds himself in his new MAX series, "Conan O'Brien Must Go," where he travels the globe, meeting his fans, indulging in local pastimes, and causing a stir.

Causing a stir is, after all, part of O'Brien's appeal. From his career as a sketch comedy writer to his wildly popular history as a talk show host for "Late Night with Conan O'Brien," "The Tonight Show," and "Conan," he's been acting like a kid in the best of ways and leaving a trail of laughter in his wake—for well over 30 years. But with "Conan O'Brien Must Go," the comedian seems to get an even broader platform to let his hilarious freak flag fly. In each episode, he travels to a new country where he meets with fans he once Zoomed with on his podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Fan, as well as with local strangers. Like the knitting in the cafe scenario, the moments are random, but they're also kind and offer a look into the nation's traditions.

But the best part about the show—and all of O'Brien's offerings over the years—is that he is having a blast. And as he celebrates his 61st birthday, it seems like goofing around and having fun is a priority—and this is something we can get on board with.
