Today is one of those days that makes me super excited and also a little bit sad. I look forward to this day each year, yet it also pulls on my heart strings.

I love, love, love being a mother and a grandmother. I also love being celebrated. I mean, c’mon. Who doesn’t love being celebrated for a job well done? I’m blessed that my kids tell me I’ve done a good job, so this is a big day for me.

I also deeply miss my own mother on this day. I loved her deeply, and I always miss her a lot on Mother’s Day. My mother was terrific, fun, and funny—a total original and my best friend. Yes, she was demanding and eccentric. And, wow, was she driven. She pushed me, encouraged me, and pushed me some more. But I still loved her.
